About Farnham Taiko

Farnham Taiko was established in Sept 2014, and incorporates both Farnham Taiko Club (the first open Japanese Taiko club in Surrey) and Potters Gate Taiko Club (the first after-school Taiko club in Surrey).

Farnham Taiko is led by Mark Alcock who teaches most of the classes.

Mark Alcock, Farnham resident since 2006 and leader of Taiko Meantime, trained with Tennon Daiko in Gobo-shi in Wakayama. Among his teachers was Katsuji Kondo, former frontman of the world famous Kodo drummers. Returning to the UK in 1994, Mark performed with Joji Hirota for 10 years and was an early member of Mugenkyo. He formed Taiko Meantime in 2001, who have performed globally in theatres and festivals.

Mark also leads Taiko drumming workshops and courses in many UK schools as part of Taiko Meantime's ongoing outreach programme.

Mark also runs Rhythmworks Ltd, providing inspirational team-building workshops for corporate organisations and charities.

Amanda Muir has children in both Potters Gate Taiko and Farnham Clubs. Amanda is the main logistical coordinator for both groups.
